Intervention and Title One Services

Our tutors are able to tackle the needs of students in a variety of situations and environments and have successfully implemented Title 1 and Intervention programs in settings such as Austin Learning Center's local tutoring office, a range of private and public school campuses, juvenile detention facilities, residential homes, and homeless shelters. Our tutors are flexible with the dynamics of each campus or site and are able to adapt to the environment of each learner. Austin Learning Center believes in measured results, and pre-test and post-test assessments are used to ensure accountability and ownership for the success of each student.

All tutors undergo a rigorous selection process to ensure that the Austin Learning Center team is the most talented and dedicated group of educators. Teacher credentials such as certifications, resumes, and/or proof of education can be furnished, as requested by the site, when tutors are selected for individual campuses.

Austin Learning Center provides all materials to be used in each tutorial session. Austin Learning Center maintains a library of leveled books, teaching resources, educational activities, complete reading and handwriting programs, math intervention materials, and reading and math manipulatives. The reading program most frequently utilized by Austin Learning Center tutors is a comprehensive, multisensory, and systematic reading and language arts program designed for struggling readers. Based on Orton-Gillingham methodologies, our program incorporates the most recent research regarding best practices in reading and language arts instruction to help struggling readers excel. This fully integrated curriculum provides direct instruction in phonics, decoding, reading comprehension, spelling, vocabulary and written language skills. The scope and sequence begins with simple skills and moves to more complex, spiraling concepts in order to bring student to full literacy. Alternative reading programs are utilized when appropriate. At the middle- and high-school level, the Austin Learning Center maintains a library of up-to-date science, mathematics, reading, writing, language, and test preparation textbooks and resources. The library also contains an assortment of assessments and other valuable teaching tools. Tutors are equipped with the necessary resources to most effectively conduct tutoring sessions, and new resources will continually be added to benefit the students being served.

Tutors administer academic assessments and are responsible for thorough documentation of tutoring services and academic progress of each student served. The skills taught in all tutoring sessions are thoroughly documented. Tutors and Austin Learning Center staff compile the session logs and other pertinent student data into monthly reports to be provided to the school or district, as required. Additionally, tutors participate in ongoing collaboration and communication with school staff. Austin Learning Center tutors and administrative team are available to meet with teachers, campus or district administration, and/or parents to provide updates and to receive feedback on student progress.
